Support for sustainability in the community

Climate Change

Half of all respondents (49% to be precise) rated climate change concern at 4 or 5 (5 being great concern), demonstrating significant support for community initiatives to reduce emissions. Concern over the weather-related threats listed was fairly evenly spread, but it is flooding that continues to worry people most, with twice as many people rating this 5 as for any other threat. Reflecting this, most of the written comments concerned drainage.

Through bulk ordering, collective lobbying and concerted action, it might be possible to lower some unavoidable costs and the costs and barriers to a number of environmental improvements, reducing the „carbon footprint‟ of the Parish, and make it more independent in the process.

Community Projects

There's interest in community projects that relate to climate change. The most popular idea was for a bulk purchase of heating oil which would reduce traffic into the villages and perhaps offer better rates too.

There is also significant interest in solar schemes and in advice to reduce energy and water use.

Support for sustainability

The local planning process should support environmentally beneficial applications and initiatives such as solar panels, wind turbines, energy conservation and the recovery and use of water. 62% of people entered 4 or 5 (5 being maximum support).
