Buses

There is significant demand for a decent bus service in the parish.  Our survey shows that only 6% of people who replied to the survey regularly use the current service.  Whereas 45% of people who replied to the survey would like a better service.

  • 96 replies out of 212 expressed an interest in an improved bus service (45%)
  • 14 of these regularly use the bus service at present and 16 use it rarely
  • The remainder of 66 do not use the bus service at all currently.

Destinations

Of the 96 replies:

Pershore             58% wish to use a bus to travel to Pershore

Cheltenham       23% wish to use a bus to travel to Cheltenham

Worcester           13% wish to use a bus to travel to Worcester

Times

There was a wide range of requests for the timing of a bus service, which indicates we need a regular service.  46% of replies requested an evening service.


Cars

Just 5% of respondents do not have a car. Most (57%) park it on a drive and think that the parking in the street in which they live is adequate. Almost all of the 21% who said their street parking is inadequate live in and around Cornmill, Elmley Castle.

Car sharing and lift schemes

Car sharing has limited appeal. Just 6% (with a car) said that they would be prepared to offer journey sharing, and 5% said they would use it.

Footpaths and bridleways

Support for viable footpaths is strong: 58% say they use them at least every week and only 12% rarely or never. Nearly half - 48% - say they would like to use them more. The most common reasons cited for not doing so relate to the condition of the paths, that they are not clear, overgrown, excessively muddy or hard for dogs to access.

Cycling

Over 60% of respondents have a bicycle, but only a third of those (20% of the total) use it every week.

More than half - 57% - believe that the speeding cars represent a significant safety problem to pedestrians and cyclists. Overcoming this concern, perhaps by providing cycle paths, including field paths between the villages, was the main factor which would encourage respondents to cycle more.
